Saint Paul the Hermit, who was born in Egypt, was an orphaned at 15. When persecution happened he went to a friends house for protection. But he was worried about being found so he fled to live in a cave. It was said that he lived in the cave for 90 years! He was sustained by a stream and plants near by and that after over 20 years there a bird would bring him bread everyday. We don’t know if his story is fact of fable but St Anthony of Egypt attests that it was true. St Paul was 112 when he died and his Holy day is celebrated in the East.
With 5 kids, I LONG for silence. But man, could I even handle a weekend in a cave? I'm not sure that I could. Like how would I use my phone? Could you do it?
